People with learning disabilities have never been a problem for politicians; just ignore them they will never complain and even if they could they have no political weight. So here in the 21st Century local politicians in the London Borough of Redbridge think they can just walk all over an essential service for human beings with a low profile voice. Think again!

In the 21st Century it is simply not acceptable that local councillors are able to treat as irrelevant the needs of people with learning disabilities. The Downshall Centre has been scheduled for a vote on its closure to be replaced by a “Free School”. The individuals using this centre found out about this move almost by accident less than a week before it was to be voted on. This is an issue for everyone anywhere in the world.

The idea of people, especially children, not having proper health care to ensure a healthy and happy life is very saddening to me. There are many incredible treatments and medicines currently available, and being created, that they should not be restricted to those that are fortunate enough to have a job that provides health care. I think this is especially relevant to the current US economy where many people do not even have jobs let alone health care.
